Television Station Licensing

Under the IBA Act No. 26, 2010, the Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA) is mandated to issue out Television Broadcast Licences. The following are the new categories of Television Broadcasting Service Licences:

  • Public Content Service Provider
  • Private Commercial Content Service Provider
  • Private Non-commercial Content Service Provider

Classes under the Broad Types of Licenses

I. Cable Subscription

II. Community Free-to-air

III. Satellite Subscription

IV. Terrestrial Subscription

V. Digital Mobile Television

VI. Landing Rights Broadcasting Services

Submissions for Television Broadcast Licensing Requirements

All applications for the provision of Television broadcasting services must be solicited for by the Authority. All applicants are to respond to the Authority’s public invitation to provide Television Broadcasting Services.

Documentation to Accompany the Official IBA Application Form:

  • Business Plan
  • A Certificate of Registration i.e. PACRA
  • A list of the applicant’s Board members with their respective curriculum vitae attached
  • A letter confirming whether the applicant will be using their own buildings or renting buildings for the radio studios
  • A list of the applicant’s Board members with their respective curriculum vitae attached
  • A list of fixed assets
